Hi guys, anyone had problems with budget tyres giving off drone when driving/steering at all speeds.

Had my newly purchased L322 2002 4.4 looked over by my mechanic mate for 2 days and he found nothing re bearings, balljoints etc and he feels it is down to cheap tyres.

Iv run budget tyres in past on all sorts of cars and never heard the noise im getting at the moment.

Iv changed front to back and vice versa but noise still there.

Tyres on front are like new and are Lota Ecceiera 255 50 20.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

I run Iota Accelera 255/50 R19 and they are perfectly fine....(I know the correct profile should be 55 but 50's are what I bought it with!)

My guess is the 20" rims.....they were not standard on the early L322's

was they new & you had them fitted ? they could have been previously used & resold as part worn due to noise caused by faulty suspension on previous vehicle.a stepped tread (close inspection would comfirm)will cause a wheel bearing type noise without doubt even if it visually appears a new looking tyre.20" alloys was a optional extra on a v8 l322 vogue which I personally run/use without any problems

i had those on mine when i first bought it for a few thousand miles and very quiet and the were forked when i took them off
when you say all speeds, it's a constant drone from 30 up to say 90, (on a private road of course)?
The torque converter can give a drone from slow up to about 55 mph

Hi guys, tyres were on Rangy when I bought it and after changing rears to front, which look brand new still getting noise/drone.

Yes getting slight noise when driving on straight dual carriageway but increases when turning at slower speeds.

CHRIST I hope its not the dreaded Torque Converter!!! but im puzzled re it getting louder when turning.

Anyone recommend a good RR mechanic in Glasgow area as im at wits end with this BLOODY noise!!

thnx again boys!

Can't see how turning would initiate a drone in the torque converter. However wheel bearing noise will increase on turning as side load is applied.

Thnx again boys!!

Any recommended RR mechanic/expert in Glasgow or surrounding area that folk would suggest going to?

cheers
