Cheap Swarfega

I switched from getty dirty hands to just using medical examination gloves, saves a lot of messing about and they're pretty cheap in boxes of 50 pairs.

I've been using gloves for the last 25 years, I use nitrile now, much tougher than latex.

i still end up ripping them to shreds and some fiddly jobs needs gloves off

Yeah but if you drink too much tea whilst working, the gloves need to come off when you go for a pish and at my age that's getting more frequent, a big job can cost a tenner extra for two boxes of gloves

sorry, are you saying your hands get dirty when you take them off to go for a pee? if so, wash yourself a bit more often

i bought one of them 5L swarfega's couple of years ago from costco, still going strong. only need a little squirt.

That reminds me, i need to go back for a look at some garden furniture.

New swarfega isn't as good as the old stuff i swear. The lemon is better than the orange I think aswell. I normally have swarfega and a nail brush and scrub untill suitably red or fairly salt and sugar when I am somewhere else

fairy and washing powder here. used to get the old swarfega when it worked and had the grit in it but found the newer stuff was useless.

When was young and impetuous I used to wash my hands in cellulose thinners. It certainly got the Land Rover dirt off them quickly, but after a few days my skin was in very poor condition and all the little wrinkles were starting to bleed. I suppose it's so good at dissolving oily things that it was dissolving the lipids in my skin. I don't do it any more and put up with the slower pace of washing up liquid aided by a green pan scrubber, which is much kinder to my skin.

been reading through the comments about hand cleaners of choice..
agree gloves are the way to go.
I have got a box of nitrile gloves from europarts or somewhere, but have been using them black builders gloves a lot, the ones that have the palms and fingers coated in nitrile ?? or summit..
when they get dirty they go in the washing machine with my "dirty" clothes..
they will stand half a dozen washes no problems..

biggest problems I now face is lack of feeling in my finger tips = years of diebetis I`m afraid....
old age has nothing to do with it

I've got a set of mechanics gloved which have the fingertips free missing on the thumb, fore and index finger. They're great bit starting to fall apart already. I'll probably buy another set as I love using them but I still need to scrub my hands and arms. Manista is definitely the best I've used and I'm sticking with it, gonna pick more up today

I use the latex/nitrile gloves, found thicker ones hard to work with, certainly saves on the hand scrubbing

I find gloves don't last long enough when working on the landy - so take the opposite approach - i put gloves ON when i need to go for a wee / use my phone / etc. and off for all Landy work
