Hi all . . just had MOT on my good old 90 - and it passed, which is always pleasing. Had a little welding done on it - which kinda got me thinking a little about possibly changing chassis. Now I know that its not too much difference between a 200 and 300 (engine mounts) but is there a major difference on a TD5 chassis or is it much the same, just engine mounts?? Seem to be a few of these kicking around, but not seen too many for a 300 . .

Cheers all

You will lose the vehicle identity if you use a 2nd hand chassis. It is likely to need a VIC at least and you may well end up with a Q plate.

If the chassis is really that bad then a new galv one will see the LR to the end of it's life.

Td5 90 has the fuel tank at the back, so presumably a few bracket differences there. I think it means a different tow bracket. So does the 110, but then so did the Tdi.

Cheers guys - I was giving the new galv chassis some serious thought, I don't wanna loose the identity of the car and to be honest, I never really thought to much about the use of a 2nd hand chassis and the identity  mmm . . . Guess its also probably the only sure way you can virtually be sure of a solid chassis - wouldn't wanna be looking at welding again!!!

at the risk of sounding like a biff.. (come to think of it nothing new there)

of i was to buy a td5 chassis would i be able to swap the bodywork from my 2.5td? or would i have to fettle some parts? if so which ones?

i only ask because td5 chassis are on ebay for around 300 quid cheaper than others,
