hi all i have just obtained a series 111 88" petrol all the outriggers and chassis from the bulkhead to the rear is rotted its stood in a field for 2yrs my question is is there a limit to how much you can weld im a welder by trade so welding it all up isnt a problem for me and i think changing the chassis loses the landy its originality plus im looking forward to the challenge plus is there a sequence to remove the body tub and other panels thanks paul

Nah yer can weld patche on patches if yer want.

Sequence for stripping her off. Is same as a woman get her top off first. then start on the bottom half start at the back and work yer way round ta the front. Be gentle though and use plenty of lube on her

Oh Well Stripped Her To The Chassis And Its As I Expected Miners Would Get Lost In The Amount Of Holes Or Lack Of Chassis There Is Budget Doesnt Allow For A New Chassis So I Must Repair This 1 Its Gone From The Middle Crossmember Through To The Back Even The Rear Member Has Dissintergrated The Rear Spring Hangers Are Floating On Thin Air Theres No Metal Or Rust There So Any Advice On Metal Thickness Or Photos Of Chassis So I Can Get A Better Picture Of How Parts Look Would Be Appreciated Thankyou

Hi Thanks For The Quick Reply Sadly I Have Looked At These Half Chassis And Yes I Would Love 1 But The Good Lady Indoors Is Allready Bending My Ear For Buying A Rust Bucket As She Calls It But Sadly I Let My Heart Rule My Head And The Rest Is History I Have A Mig Welder And Im Not Bothered Aboat Rebuilding The Chassis As By Trade Im A Welder But Some Pics Of How The Chassis Should Look Would Be Nice If Anyone Could Post Some And Yes I Have The Chassis Technicle Diagrams To Show Where Holes Etc Should Be

Try Richards Chassis Land Rover chassis manufacturer, LandRover Richards chassis.

The defender factory manual has diagrams/drawings with dimensions I think. Dunno if the series one is the same. Good luck sounds like you;re gonna need it.

Have you managed to talk her round yet or has the project ground to a halt. I'm waiting with bated breath 'cos my son has a series 2a in the same sad chassis nick. Where are you up to?

the millitary workshop manual i have has all the dimentions for the chassis, my 109 chasis is different to the civilian chassis, i dont know if the 88 civi is different than the 88 millitary i can email you what i have,
adam

The military chassis has extra bracing & strengthening, and a different rear crossmember, but should fit either way. I believe the light weight chassis is a bit different

In simple terms the military x-member is just a parallel box section without the tapered ends.
