Hi All.
I have just purchased a new Wolf 130 Mig Welder. Could anyone recommend the setting I should use to weld on sections of 2mm Steel. I have tried various settings already, however, none seem to be very good.
Also, one uTube video suggesting welding without the Shroud covering the Tip. Is this a good idea ?.

No shroud? That's cobblers.

Just spent the day welding up my trailer floor, 22 patches (I think its on its last legs...). I'm using it as my training before I weld the bulkhead, there's no substitute for practice!. The one way is to get some scrap and weld with one hand on the speed knob and make small adjustments until it sounds right and keeps steady arc. Start slow and come up. Have you go the polarity right for gasless? Do you have power and speed settings? For 2 mm try the meduim or high power and start on a slow speed. Is it an inverter type?

I'm assuming by the name of your welder, it's a 130 amp. You might find it blows/trips your house fuse on full power. The thicker the metal being welded, the more power you need

Settings will be either 1max or 2 min for 2mm at a guess and wire feed prob a bit over halfway. Make sure you clean well, makes a big difference
 
Gasless will always be inferior I'm afraid, unless you are a Jedi master of welding.

yes & no....

fluxcore has it's uses in industry, as a hobby-weld it's not great BUT then most 'hobby' welders are not great (both the sets & 'weldists':eek:)



as to the OP.

practace & practace before attacking the chassis, remember that you could be towing & your repair is what holds the trailer ono_O ( possibly a 'worst-case scenario but.....)

clean metal (both sides if possible), if outdoors a 'tent' is usefull to stop wind causing swearing, try to get comfy or at least have good access to the area that's being repaired...

Agreed re Min 2 or Max 1, try Min 2 first on some scrap and break a few or saw them up to make sure you are getting decent welds.. Practice and not only get it very clean but also get into position and make sure you can get the angle you need all along the weld.
I've not had much success in the past with gasless but doing this trailer outside (and its been windy) the latest gasless wire with the inverter mig had been really good. I don't think i could have done it with gas without building a habitat. Its been at least 12 ft of weldng. This has all been 1.5 to 2mm and not structural so I'd want to see the penetration on bigger welds before using gasless on the chassis.
 
Thanks, this is the basic information I am looking for. I will give it a try during the week and keep you posted.
