Can anyone recomend someone to cut away and replace rear chassis both sides ive been quoted £2000 on a 1999 td5 from hub area

Depends how big your hole is.mine was done for £35.00

Its a small hole but you can see it is rotten from the hub area towards the rear of the car.shame rest of car fine don't see the point in welding plate when the rest has clearly had it.One side worse than the other.

Just checked its over 2k + vat and depends on model to swap.so over 5k to swap a chassis on a car worth 3k.

Yes true but what could you replace it with for similar money

Nissan Navara Towing limit seems very low, web site says over a ton, autotrader 1600kg, no good for our horse trailer!!!
No thats the carrying load in the truck.towing capacity 3500 i know cos i got one and 2 thoroughbreds and it pulls them in the box nicely.also got a terrano which will pull the horse box they actually do it better than the td5.the td5 is better in the snow and mud.

Thanks Dave found that after........but 2600kg is enough, so it would be a viable replacement.

Will use a bit more fuel and as stated is worse in snow and poor conditions, all points to what a versatile vehicle the Discovery 2 was, damned shame they didnt spend a few quid galvanising the chassis....

From Nissan UK site:

Max. towing capacity weight braked @ 12%
kg 2700 2600 2600 2600 3000

So it ain't 3500kgs.

well im only going by what my handbook told me when i bought my d22 new in 2003.owning the 3 i can state the discovery inc my previous 2004 td5 both manual do not pull as well as my nissans.every thing else they do better just not enough grunt.

both give similar fuel returns we have towed our avondale with all 3 vehicles and averaged 30mpg.
i have an N reg terrano with an immaculate chassis, it just came out the showroom painted no underseal or waxoyl.shame about the discovery 2 chassis cos i love the car and will do what i can to keep the back end on.
Had a navara d40 for a short while drank fuel, lower towing and carrying capacity.

I agree. That was my philosophy when I decided to have mine done. It is, at this moment, still being put back together and I can't wait for its return. There are pics of the work on face book but I don't know how to get them, or a link, on here!! Sorry.
