Hi all

I am gearing up to remove the air compressor and middle valve reservoir and replace everything with new. Captive nuts, bolts, compressor bracket everything.

Once i have removed all this old junk I plan to scrub down the muck off this part of the rail and treat it with some sort of spray.

My Q. being what can i spray on in that area?

Cheers

Anything you like, but the main rails are not an issue yet, they are also pretty meaty, way thicker than any previous disco models.

The two problem areas that are coming to light are, 1 the sills rot out under the plastic covers, as the covers act as mud traps, simple to save if you act now, ie remove covers annually/treat any visible rust and inject wax into the sills, 2 the rear crossmember especially where the elec sockets are located.
On the bottom of the sill covers there is a long row of plastic rivets, leave every other one out when refitting, this helps with draining and air flow.

Open rear door feel on the inner wheel arch lip and you will feel/see the self gripping rubber strip, remove this and grease the inner arch lip and refit the rubber strip, if the strip is knackered which it will be, get on ebay for some cheap new stuff, again grease annually.

For small localised spots the cheap aerosol chain grease spray is pretty good, sticky as hell.
