chassis number confusion...

as my series 3 109 is an x-reg, I assumed it would have had the big long vin-code thing, but instead it's just 8 numbers and a letter.

It goes 91600***A.

Does this mean it's older? I looked up the webnet and it said it's a 109 diesel - but mines petrol (ok engines can be changed, but who would fit a petrol to replace a diesel??!)

Is there a way of decoding the whole thing like a vin, or is it one of those "that's the number you get" thing when it's first built?

A mate who's looked it over reckons it's ex-army before going to Stanstead (which would explain the twin tanks, and lots of holes where stuff's been bolted) - do I write to Dunsfold or sommat?

propper doosils have a little low fuel light on the dash which the petrols dont, if you were changing engines most folk probably wouldnt bother takin that off..... maybee's...........
