hello, my defender 90 failed its mot this year due to a few bad rusty patches and iv welded them up for the retest and just need new diesel tank to pass fingers crossed, this winter i was going to rebuild her on a galv chassis and new respray, its my first land rover but im a tractor mechanic and dont mind working late into the night and was wondering which way would be best way to taker the body off, all in 1, or pannel by pannel? and any hint n tips on swapping a chaiis would be appreciated, thanks :p

definately body in one including wings ,ive done it both ways and lifting off in one reduces work considerably

What did you use to support/lift the body?

Any idea how much you have to lift it by, I'm guessing it's not much as you don't need to clear the engine if you 'drive' the chassis out forwards. Just wondering how tall a garage to find when my time comes....

i use fork lift with home made extended tines go thru back door and support with a plank thru front door holes, but have done it also in similar fashion using ackro jacks one either side with plank and two at back ,you need to lift about a foot to clear gearbox, with sticks off ,dont forget about body stays at rear and bolts under seat box and 2 at front of seat box and seat belt mounts

Thanks matie all the hints and tips i can get the better from all you land rover buffs as she is my first 1 and im only 16 so bin in experienced you see, i have taken loads of pics just need to upload them onto here. :)))
