changing t-box

how do you change yours?
reason i ask is watched neighbour (knows everything and his way is the correct and only way type) struggle with changing his over last 8 days.
did offer to help but got told to go f**k myself.
he left handbrake unit on. props just disconnected them from axles and left gear cluster in.
now way i do it is
back cover off, gear cluster out.
props off altogether ( simply cos i like lots of room, and youngest 2 try helping)
handbrake drum off and undo 4 bolts then remove backing plate with shoes etc attached.
with youngest 2 ( 3 and 4) helping still only takes day to do it.

just curious as to how you do yours.

just to be pedantic input gear isnt a cluster gear ,intermediate is as 3 gears in one casting, removing hand brake assembly is what i allways do ,remember with 1.2 disco boxes input gear cant be fitted once box tight upto gear box as 1.4 or 1.6 boxes can,your neighbour sounds like a knob, not listening to your way

does he limp, and talk a bit funny.....

I would just take the seats out and lift it up.
That's how I do clutches.
Might not be the quickest but it is by far the easiest. I take the gearbox, transerbox and handbrake up and out through the door. I can do a clutch in 4 hours like that. If I plod about, stop for food and get distracted by watching tv which is what I usually do, I can still easily get it done in a day.

least thats what i got told, only owned them for nearly 30yrs and grew up working on them with my dad.

Well he's a nob then. I've done every one I've ever done like that. It's much easier with 2 people because you need to tilt it slightly to get it through the hole but I just shout my grandad out to let the hoist down for me.
If I had a ramp I'm sure it would be easier to take it down on a transmission jack but I don't and I don't know about him but I can't lift a land rover gearbox on my back on my drive and there's no room to put a jack under.

I did the clutch in a crv on my back the other day and it nearly killed me getting the gearbox back in.

Some people just make things so much harder than they need to be. An ounce of common sense is worth a fortune.
