Hi all apologies if this has been covered a million times but just after a litte help before I botch things!
Both front sensors are open circuit and seized in place. Tried the free them but to no avail.so been told best route is to split the hub and knock it out from the inside. Also going to change the reluctor rings are they are damaged.
So what's the best way to do this? Got new hub nuts coming new sensors and new rings.
Is it better to remove the two very rusty bolts holding the strut to the hub and pull the hub down enough to free driveshaft or do I have to split the lower ball joint and take the whole hub off?
Fitting new rings do they need to be heated and shrunk on or can I just clean up the corrosion and hammer the new ring on?
The 2 bolts holding the strut to the hub the thread looks very fine and corroded should I replace these and if so is this a dealer part?
Any tips for doing this or is there a sticky or how to I have missed?

All help much appreciatedated

when i replaced 4 ABS sesnors and rings and when i did it i took the cv joint out and using a chisel hit the old ring it broke and fell off i then took loads of time cleaning the CV joint up ready to slowly tap the new ring on remember to to little taps all the way round

once fitted i moved to the abs sensor with the cv still removed..

i tried to hit it from the inside but still stuck anyway after trying to pry it out the end came off with the wiring and i ended up fitting the strut bolts back on started to hit it inwards this started to slowly move then find a a tool about the width of the sensor and continue to knock it through

i did the other side 1st and i drilled it out but this was more of a pain in the arse hence explaining the easier way above

Thanks for the reply yeah my sensors are well seized as well so going to try hitting them from the inside out. So did you find it easier to break the end off and punch the remnants of the sensor thru? Did the bolts holding the strut to the hub come out ok and be reusable?
Sorry to drag on but can I ask did you have to split the lower balljoint or was there enough movement th the strut removed to seperate the cv joint from the hub?
Many thanks

Alan

you can remove cv by just removing lower ball joint ,all nuts and bolts can be reused unless you damage them it would be easier to hit old sensor through,i often have to smash/drill them apart

i didnt undo the ball joint at all

as for the 2 bolts on the strut i soaked them in oil over night next morning wire brushed the threads and soaked them for a couple of hours again then started the job hey were tight as in put on with a air gun but once the breaker bar cracked them off it was easy..

just remember if the threads get tight to put it back on a couple and try again

this is all i did and i have reused the nuts and bolts

you must have a new hub nut ,I took the hub off and just drilled through the centre of the sensor and then gave it a good hammering with a suitable drift ,luckily my rings were ok but as I said you must have a new hub nut and torque it up to 400Nm or 280Lbf ft

i did search and it seems you need to split the hub to get a really stuck sensor out or am i missing something?

I dont fancy drilling it out if its amess of wires rather get a suitable sized drift and persaude it out ot break the head off and punch it right through.
either way i have to split the hub to change the rings.

an yes i ordered new hub nuts am new to freelanders but not cars lol thanks for the advice tho very much appreciated.

you have to undo bottom ball joint or 2 bolts on leg to remove cv no more

ah ok sorry misunderstood your post I thought you meant i diodnt need to remove the cv to get out a stuck sensor! my apologies
