Is it easy to change the headlamps? Not long til Spain now so I was planning to buy some lhd headlamps but how simple (or not) are they to swap over? Will it alter the allignment? haynes doesn't seem to mention removing the lamps...
Cheers

The headlamps on my Disco 2 are a simple push on fit with 3 plastic ball fittings. I changed mine to LHD for trip to Eastern Europe as I got them cheap and as far as I could tell didnt alter beam level. Be careful though as the plastic Ball fittings may be brittle and break but only pennies to replace. To remove you just pull the headlamp unit outwards firmly but when refitting make sure that all 3 fittings are lined up before pushing back on too hard.

I was thinking of doing the same for trips when the vehicle is in Europe, i.e having some spare lamps, and simply swapping them over. But of interest do you think this would effectively invalidate insurance? If you have a UK based policy?

When the insurance advisor always says: "standard right hand drive, no modifcations....

I guess this depends on your insurance company, and you never know if they would be so silly on something like this, until you have the unfortunate need to make a claim...but from experience - any thing they can latch on to - not to pay out fully.....

Being a new disco owner, i am wondering about insurance related to such modifications...etc etc there is arguably more OEM fitted options on Discoveries than other more standardised vehicles....surely that creates some issues for an insurance company.

You are only modifing your headlamps to comply with the regs that say they are modified so the don't dazzle but the regs don't say how.

Unless u have a vehicle fitted the modern lamps that have a switch over function, most people will stick a patch on the glass and that will reduce the amount of light, it's a much better idear to fit L H D lamps as you will get all of the light on the road with a proper dip to light up the kerb.

If you do a lot of driving at night abroard, then I think this the way to go.
