Is this a good or bad option, looking to change my 1995 167'000 mile p38 to a discovery td5 would like a face lift but cant afford one, has any one had both and what are your thoughts

Any probs on the td5, have any started rusting like the disco 1's yet?

Another thing can you get a manual with cruise control ?

May its not the thing to do then i'll ask the disco boys as if someone has done the change they should be in the other room now.

my mate has a disco, hes spent thousands keeping it going, suspension, electrics,no remote locking anymore.all his windows were fecked too, lots more bits replaced.
i dont know much about rr yet as iv only had mine a month but i think they are about the same for problems as the p38.

Early TD5 engines were unreliable. When I took my old 300tdi Discovery to my local garage for the MOT and told the owner I was looking for a discovery 2 or P38 he said avoid the TD5 engine. They now refuse to work on any TD5 engine or ford HCDI engines.

The trouble and strife keeps churpin on about getting a TD5 Disco to reduce the rocket fuel thirst of the P38. Low mileage 03/04 examples are up for over 10K, even 02's with spaceship mileage are around 7K, that is just madness. I'd be lucky to get 4K for the P38 and 6K buys alot of petrol!! And a 6/7 year old disco has the potential to be as reliable as a chocolate fireguard, bit like the P38:crazy:

If you are running a DT or DSE then switch straight over to 50/50 then 80/20 veg oil to diesel mix, at about 70ppl reduces the cost of fuel, cleans the engine and improves mpg and torque (a little). That should keep 'er indoors 'appy.

V8 I'm afraid so not even extra virgin olive oil would make any difference!!
Just have to live with 14mpg:(
Keep tellin er indoors to work those pins a bit more then she'd have better fuel economy than a mini;)
