Hi

I know this question has been asked many time in slightly different ways but bear with me....
The buttons on my fob were worn out and only one worked (the locking one). I ordered a new battery & fob casing and replaced the insides (circuit board into the new casing). I noticed before fitting new fob casing that the orange button on the circuit board (unlock i think) had disintegrated.

Once refitted with the car open & no key in the ignition, i pressed the working button several times and the door locks responded..yippee... I then placed the key in the ignition (with the door open ) and started & stopped the car several times to give me confidence that it was now NOT immobilised!
The next day the wife was filling up at the local garage when she couldn't start the car - immobilised!!! Furthermore the keyfob would not work. Panic!!
The guy in the garage had a signal receiver thing, which i blipped my fob at & it lit up to say it was receiving a signal.
We opened & closed doors around the card don't ask me why and eventually the car started, though the fob does not work at all for locking/ unlocking.
I have seen someone on Ebay that repairs fobs - i.e. will replace the orange buttons on the circuit board and repair circuit board for a tenner, so hopefully if i send it off i should have a fully functioning keyfob again.

I only have ever had the one fob & need to get it done before i advertise my freelander for sale...It's a 2004 td4 black 5 door 86000 miles if anyone interested with fully history

Anyone think this should sort it or can give any explaination or solution please

Thanks in advance

Thankd Mike thats what i did inititally after changing fob housing and it worked then but not now.
I am sending ot off to the ebay man for the fob repair so hopefully that will sort it.
Will keep everyone posted.....

Good Question, I don't know to be honest, however tried it at home with same problem. As in keyfob not working.

Prob not that then..... Rover fobs often break up.. If the outer button doesn't contact the inner button properly it won't work. The button has a conductive section on it I believe.

Try the eBay repairer... A tenner isn't much to get your fob working.

a friend of mine's fell apart... the buttons literally fell off and then a hole appeared in the lock button. i re-soldered the buttons and filled the plastic button with paper and hey presto... dunno how long it will last though!
