chainsaw

i'm after a chainsaw(petrol) mainly for cutting firewood/logs,which brand/make can anyone recommend.
what do i look out for
what size should i buy.
anyone got one for sale?

Husky or Stihl
A 14" or 16" bar will do yer nicely.

I would say a Still 16" bar should do you

so whats wrong with an english made partner then ..........
i dont rate stihl at all they used to have a good name but the build quality has dissapeared

well to be honist the one i use is 7 years old so build quality was better back then

got a little stihl a coupla years ago and it's great - think it's called a 180. Don't bother with the easy start ones though.

Tis a pitty Partner isnt English, they're owned by the Electrolux group, it was part of the Husqvarna group until Electrolux made Husqvarna independent...

Real men use a manual saw or an axe. Anybody uses a chainsaw should have a gaylander and be called angie or rupert

yer that was my attitude untill i got a husky, now i spend hours enjoying the heat given orf from me burner rather than spending hours chopping logs for it

You cruel bastid using a dog to chop wood . I'm reporting you to the rspca

justa word of warning about huskies, they are very sensitive to having the correct fuel oil mix

i know this because i have recently wrecked the piston/cylinder and rings of one of mine using just half a tank of neat petrol

Is that how you make a dog go woof???

i got given an old still a while ago that needed a good clean up, i ran out of 2 stroke half way thru a job and put 3 full tanks of neat unleaded thru it in an afternoon and it never missed a beat needs a new chain tho as it's angin off a bit and blunt as a sponge

you can move the bar forward, which'll tighten the chain and sharpen it with the correct size file/tool, where in berks are you, my lawnmower man 'll probably sort it for a tenner knowing him.

Don't get a Mc Cullogh they have a problem with oiling the chain, I found out too late.

I use a husky 84 cc with a 18" bar for me logs at home along with a good oregon axe.Mostly use the 364xp at work,again 18" bar.If you can get someone to sell ya a top handle....ace.I use me top handle with one hand and me shorts on to do small stuff for the kindling.

The Jonsred is a good little saw shares a lot of parts as the husky, and if your logging all day the husky and jonsred are a bit lighter than the sthil, trick we used to do was to get a resonable power saw and drop it to the smallest bar and chain you could get to increase the cut speed, remember if you puttto sharp an angle on the chain teeth you will cut like hell but u will spend most of the day resharpening, likewise not enough slow cut rate, when i did my licence they reackoned ideal was 32/36 deg was about right...

30 degrees num nut,or 25 degrees wtf taught you to wear out you saw?

Big Mac's are cheap and ok for a bit of domestic logging, but that's all, same go's for JCB and other 'in shop' brands.
If you have owt more than a ton or so to log, get a Husky or a Stihl, use good two stroke oil and proper chain oil, anything other will not do.
