Hi having updated slightly my p38 from 97 to a 2000 i had couple of issues similar to what i had with my old one so i checked the r/f unit noticed it was the old type so replaced with new one. This solved the issues i had so great.
However over the last few days the locks on the doors seem to operate on their own every so often. sometimes only once or twice then all ok. sometimes half a dozen times then all ok for a while. any ideas anyone?:confused: puzzled. any help greatly appreciated. All in all really pleased with the new one and my son is now running around in my old one so keeping all in the family.:)

Open and firmly (slam) shut both halves of the tailgate, cures it on mine until the next time:) I assume that this happens while you are driving?

As this happens on mine, in a totally random manner, I've been trying to get my head round this for a couple of years now. I've investigated the mechanics of the driver's door lock, and tested the microswitches but all to no avail. I cannot recreate the fault with the car stationary. The two points that are confusing me are; the car always immediately unlocks itself and, if I lock the doors as I'm driving, it doesn't happen.

Never got to the bottom of it, but I got the cure from others. Can't work out the logic of the tailgate switching causing random locking and unlocking unless it's a wire breaking in the loom where it flexes as the tailgates opens/closes with a strand shorting to an adjacent wire:confused:
Slamming the tailgate always cures it until the next time the tailgate is opened on mine:)

Many thanks for the comments yep mainly happens when driving funny thing is it didn't happen that much before i fitted the new r/f. seems more so since fitting it, however as i've solved the other issues by fitting it just have to put up with it i guess. but will try the tailgate trick, and i did stop it for bit by locking the doors whilst driving so maybe i'll find the cure by experimenting will keep you informed if i find the answer, again as allways great response on here many thanks.

my 2001 p38 was continually 'bouncing' the locks. i lived with it for a few years and it seemed to get worse. finally got round to changing the lock unit in the drivers door. no problems since then

Thanks for that rodent i'll sit with it for a while but if gets worse maybe take a look at that route, at the moment it's no real problem justn bit annoying so see how it goes. many thanks for the input.
