Hi. Have a Disco 11 2003. Over the last few weeks the central locking has been playing up in that the receiver wasn't talking to the key fob and the only way to open/close was to activate the fob over the rear sunroof. Checked out internet and assumed it would be water in the receiver or poor earth as have suffered from dripping roof. Have now dropped out headlining - originally thought sensor was between rear sunroof and rear door but turns out it was alongside rear sunroof motor. Everything seemed dry with no staining or rusting. Cleaned up earth and dried the sensor but still the same - fob needs to be very close to sensor to work. New sensor is about £60 so before I assume that is the problem and fit a new one my question is, how can I be sure it is a defective receiver sensor rather than the fob (with new battery) not putting out a strong enough signal?
As an aside, the bung in the roof hole between rear roof light and rear door was only done up finger tight so may we'll be the leak problem as everything else looks fine - but more investigating to be done with the sealed up sun roofs and drain pipes. Thanks

As long as you dont have a second fob to check with that or a fob signal detector you can't be sure which is the problem but the receivers are a more common failure when it's about the range cos if the fob fails it would rather not emit at all than loosing range

Thanks for this - think easier to just go for a new receiver. Might be a stupid question but would I have to sync the new unit to the key and if yes, how?
