Hello all, I am new here and hope I aint made a big mistake buying a Freelander. The only problem I have is the central locking, it will superlock off the fob and when I press the unlock fob button it does not unlock the car but it does come out of deadlock status, I then have to open the door with the key. The doors do not lock\unlock off the centre console switch.

If I press the lock button on the door the doors do not centrally lock. I have checked the fuse and it is okay. Any help would be appreciated.

I have done a search but cant find the same problem.

half of nellys 2 and 1/2 THOUSAND posts are *snigger*'s

apart from makin a huge gaylander mistake, think that was wat he was sniggerin at, there will be help comin ur way, eventually

Now I feel good, just got rid off my Frontera for this, and that ran lovely, the wife wanted the Freelander. point taken with the replies, suppose keeping it light hearted relieves the stress of ownership. To think I work for them.. Well Jag.

this might be as simple (but expensive) as a door lock problem. the thing to check is the operation of the boot lock, which has a bit of a strange operating method.

press the unlock button once, the vehicle should come out of deadlock mode and the drivers door button should pop up.

press it again and the passenger door button should pop up and the boot should also be able to be opened. crucially, there is no audible locking sound from the boot lock when you go from deadlock, to unlock to full unlock, as the door opens from a signal on the microswitch on the tailgate handle.

try a full unlock (two pushes) and see what happens to the boot lock.

had a similar problem on mine and it turns out both door locks had failed (didn't really notice passenger one as don't use it much)

Had exactly same prob with my 2003 targa. Had to change both door locks - expensive. Acorrding to LR dealer here in Mallorca they are 'tired of replacing these' because the solenoid is attached to a nylon gear which wears out prematurely pushing the deadlock up and opening but not closing. The gear is not replaceable and so entire lock/ motor has to be changed. Wrote to LR who say that 'the number of incidents that have occurred with this component in the 1000's that have been manufactured have meant that no modification has been necessary'. Having met several freelander owners with the same prob seems LD don't have their ear to the ground!!
