Hi all

Im having some problems with my central locking on my 97 300tdi, the symptoms are.....unlock the door with the remote, the locks go up but then the drivers lock falls back down and it locks the car again!
I also can not open the drivers door with the key, the lock turns but it doesnt push the lock up?!
Iv read that there are are some springs which snap?
Iv stripped the door panel off and found this, should there be a spring where i have highlighted around in red?

If not, anyone have any ideas?

Someone, somewhere did a photo-guide to it .. but really it's not that bad, just fiddly and awkward.

Take door card off, then take a few photo's of the lock mechanisms, rods and sockets they fit into etc, so you can refer to the pics when you're replacing the rods. In fact this step is almost superfluous as they simply don't fit unless they're in the right place .. but the orientation of the rods and connectors is very important, hence the pics ...

When the lock mechanism is out (that's where the huge strength is needed as they're a very tight fit, but at the same time very, very fiddly) the spring is normally found with only half of it left in place, the bottom half mostly drops out .. be careful to replace the spring using one that's the same 'hand' and get the bottom half out of the door .. it'll rattle and drive you mad trying to find it later.. the springs are handed left and right and don't work if you get it wrong!

Assembly is the reverse of disassembly ... ;)

Thanks guys, so i assume that part of the spring sits in the rectangle hole ia have highlighted in my picture?
Ill let you know how it goes:)

just confirm that you get the little springs in the right way round, as in the same way they were before they came out
yes it is possible to get them wrong, I managed it.
each door only took half hour start to finish so not a major bummer
