Central Locking, Drivers side

I have a Freelander 2 and all of a sudden my drivers side door no longer opens with the fob or manually. All the other doors open and all windows work (including the drivers side). Is it a quick fix or do I need to take it to a garage? Being female I don’t want to get ripped off. Thanks

It sounds like the door actuator has failed, however a code read would be needed to confirm that.
Changing a front door actuator is about 1.5 hours work, and the part should be less than £80, which will give you a rough idea of what you should expect to pay. It's not a difficult job for a quality mechanic, but there are many cowboys about, so hopefully you use a garage you can trust.

Hopefully uncle nodge will be around shortly. Sometimes the regular used door being the driver side locking mechanism fail. There's two trigger for fob and manual on Freelander 1 by the sound of it the same for 2. Fob is picked up by the central locking in the car opening driver mechanism motor or double clicking for all. The key manually does the same. If driver lock fails pending on age of the vehicle it's a replacement job not the key lock.

Rimmer Bros, Paddock are whom I used. As for your age of the vehicle, my guess it genuine there would be three grades on sale. A diagnosis code reader as mentioned above will confirm failure.

Is that Paddock, Matlock??
My brother may have a diagnostic checker for land rovers (used to do lots of off roaming)

It depends on how good you are at stripped a door down. There is a guide on YouTube I think, which would give you an idea of what is involved.
Replacing a door actuator isn't super difficult, but does need a decent amount of understand as to how it all comes apart, and goes back together again.

If you are going to DIY change the actuator, then a diagnostic won't help, as you'd be diagnosing by substitution.

So……. I have phoned the garage I use and they have quoted £250 for the actuator and labour. I told them that was far too expensive! They said the part was from a dealership but could get one off eBay cheaper. I’m thinking maybe it looks like a DIY job. Could one you experts maybe send me a link to which part I would need to order? it’s a 2013 Freelander 2

Hi all,

Sam thing has happened on my 2013 Freelander 2, so I hopped on here to search for a solution or advice on costs involved. Car is going in for a service in a couple of weeks and wanted to get an idea on the price before hand.

The door actuator is an easy DIY job for someone technically minded.

Mine still hasn’t been done asked a couple of “mechanics” I know of and one said he couldn’t do it because he hadn’t got the software if my alarm went off whilst he was taking my door apart

What a crock of sh1t.
The alarm won't go off if the car is unlocked and battery is disconnected before starting the job.
It's a pretty simple job.

I just wish he had said he didn’t want to do it
