Hi All
The above seems obsolete, so time to try a repair.
Its a plastic sealed unit with a seam down the middle.
Has anyone successfully dismantled one of these?
If so, how?
Thanks for any help.

Wot he said ^^^^^^
To be honest having central locking is a bit of a luxury novelty to me, even more so when it all works.
No need to open the rear every time so quite happy to just use the key.

Never liked central locking, it unlocks door that are safer locked when in cities. In the states doors re-lock when the engine is started (or something like that) and I have had a hire car where you could choose just to unlock just the drivers door or all doors.

My '87 doesn't have CL on the tailgate, only on the doors (actuated just from the driver's) & fuel filler cover.
This allowed LR to boast about the 'upgrades' ie CL extended to tailgate & actuation from passenger door, to later models when they could have just as easily fitted full CL in the first place
