I'm new to this forum and new to Landos. I just bought a 2004, Disco II, Auto, Petro. My center console, far forward, on the right side gets extremely hot. Almost too hot to touch. There is also hot air comming out of the vent there by my left ankle. If I turn on the Air Conditioning, I can feel both the cold AC and the hot air comming out. I've followed some posts that seem to point to needing to change the Autobox fluid, but none of the post have anything conclusive. Anyone have any thougths?

There's a lot of heat coming from the auto box that's normal the floor insulation should stop some of it but the console & cab does get hot more noticeable in the summer.

With the hot air from the single vent only suggests that u have climate controlled AC therefore one one of the temp sensors or servo may have failed, or it's doing the right thing and blending the cab temp to what is set on the dash.

There is an onboard test facility in the workshop manual but repair of the system is not DIY

More info on this subject. I have discovered that if I turn the entire climate control "OFF"...no heat, no vent, no AC, the center console does not heat up. Is there some valve that is not opening/closing correctly? Maybe a temp sensor or thermostat issue?

the pipe that carries hot air to the rear heater vents runs along there and can heat it up. I suspect that's what it is.

The pipe that carries air to the rear is not the culprit. When I turn on the AC, the pipe blows cold air in the back and the plastic pipe is actually cold and, as usual, the right side of the center console is too hot to touch. Also that pipe runs down the left side (passenger side) as well and the left side stays cool.

Difflock66, are you suggesting that the wiring is getting so hot that it heats up the console to the point you can't touch it? I'll check that out.

I doubt 12v fused wiring would get that hot.

I reckon what discool says is more the case, heater pipe come undone or a hole etc etc.

Get the screwdriver out :D

For what it's worth, in my defender with the same engine a lot of heat finds its way into the cab via the transmission tunnel. After you've been driving for couple of hours putting your hand in the cubby box is like putting it in an oven. Not a good place for your sandwiches, but it does help keep your chips warm. It's a combination of the TD5 engine making a lot of heat and the pattern of airflow around the engine as you drive, as it tends to get funnelled down the transmission tunnel. Nice to think that all that money I've spent on diesel is being put to good use - not.
