Hi,I've looked through the posts for an answer too this but no luck. I'm going to fit a s/h Ashcroft cdl unit to my D2 , does this mean I have to somehow disconnect the traction control or does it not affect it and will run in tandem?

Interesting question. As there were D2s with cdls then I would think that TC would work with them, after all, TC works through the ABS sensors on the hubs, nothing to do directly with the transfer box so I don't think it could sense that the cdl was locked. I think I am right in saying that the TC works by applying braking to a wheel that is turning more than it should in relation to the others, so if I had to put money on it, i'd say you would be OK. Others will get on here and correct me if I am wrong. Just thinking about it from basic principles.

The way I understand, they should work together fine.

You could still have different wheel speeds even with center diff locked.

Indeed you could and would have, the cdl on its own is still no use if you are cross axled and one wheel on each axle is spinning, that is where TC should help.

Factory CDL does turn off TC when engaged, but i believe it is to do with the electrics and the dash light, so you can override it and run both at same time.

Sounds a bit weird they would do that, wonder why.

But then it’s a LR who knows what they where thinking sometimes:oops:

If you go to Ashcroft website you can find the answer there. As i understood on models pre 2002 you have to do a mod (wiring) on the SLABS ECU but on later models do not. I also connect cdl linkage now (unfortunatelly I can not check as i have the CDL sensor bad) on a 2003 my D2.

I have just managed to fix the CDL sensor and I got now the CDL light. But first time I also had the ABS/TC as well. When I switched off and on the ignition the ABS/TC gone and only the CDL was on. Maybe I will need to modify (cut wire) the ABS ECU as well (even I have 2003 face lift model)?

If the SLABS ECU is the factory fitted one it should not bring on the ABS/TC lights with diff locked, that's a pre-facelift thing, facelifts should not do that... do you hear the 3 bongs of the ABS system self test after ignition?

The SLABS ECU might not be the original then
Only the SLABS ECU does the 3 bongs?
Ok, so I maybe have pre facelift ECU. How should it work with CDL?
If I engage CDL and turn the ignition on AFTER then I have CDL, ABS /TC lights on. If I start engine and engage CDL after then only CDL light? Is this normal?

That's normal behaviour of pre-facelift, the faceift should give 3 bongs after the self test passed and not bring on ABS/TC at all

What i do not understand why it is recommended to do wiring mod on the ECU on the pre 2002 models if the CDL seems to work fine when you engage it while the ignition is on?
