Heres one that iam sure will bring some feedback if not at leat read:.....

anyone know of a CD changer upgrade (ie new unit) that will attached direct to the present loom in the boot of a 2001 P38a?

Present set-up is a Alpine OEM H/K R/cassete (head unit) & the OEM (Alpine CD Change unit) with what seems the the mini iso connection in the boot

I was thinking along the lines of some of the BMW CD players

Aim is to replace the present CD changer with a MP compatable unit & keep the present head unit

happy trails

Abe,

I looked at doing the same thing about a year ago. Went to the Alpine web site and found a compatability list which told me which current cd stackers would work with my head unit, there was one then that would directly connect to the head unit and play all forms of disc. Sorry I can't remember any details, I ended up fitting a radio with a built in hard drive (30Gigb).
Hope the above gives you some ideas.

Hiya Foxy

Well so far it seems that some BMW changers may be compatable - i have fished the unit out of the boot and will probably trek around to a local ICE dealer to see what´s possible basicly "what have yer thatl fit this"

it seems there may be possible with units from Alpine sony or kenwood

ironically i was at the local LR main dealers for the area this morning. and asked if they did compatable upgrades - they looked a bit blank and said not really.

what i want is to keep the existing loom

last month i put a JVC DVD head unit in - got all the companable converters etc (for the remote over the steering wheel - the lot) after all it was installed it didnt sound as good as the original alpine radio / cassette set-up

so i will put original head-unit all back in and just upgarde the CD changer for something that will play MP3 format

many thanks for the help never-the-less
happy trails

i have just changed my original system ( a clarion system with harmon kardon upgrade) to a sony head unit and boot changer and it sounds awesome :) :) :) .
i removed the original loom as i had to install my new loom anyway , and getting the old loom out without damaging it was a bloody nightmare    took a good couple of hours .
