Hi chaps - my Midland 98 Plus CB has gone for a shizen.

It worked perfectly in my discovery, I removed it 2 months ago and have now fitted to my series 3 and the unit wont transmit.

I have a healthy 12volt supply, ground planes etc ohm out perfectly with no shorts.

I have no TX power at all on the power meter, SWR doesn't move on key forward or reflection...but the unit changes from RX to TX when I key up. I have power on my output transistor but am getting no RF on my oscillating circuit....this is about as far as my knowledge of this extends.

Any decent rig repair people out there that you can recommend?

ps if its not cost effective to repair what's decent on the market these days for ~£70

Keep with Midland? go with Cobra/TTI? etc

Does it rx as normal? Stick another CB right next to it, can you hear it even if it's very weak, maybe the final has gone? Transmission1 is probably the best place to ask about rig repairers. The Team TS 6M has good reviews, is multi standard too so should be future proof for the forthcoming legalisation of AM.

Open the mic casing and check the PTT switch is operating using a multimeter. You can solder a new one in fairly easily and you get the switches in maplin. If it was stored somewhere slightly damp or humid could be just a bit corroded

I think ptt is working ok as when I key up the white noise stops and the RX led turns to TX

I got a mate on channel 22 parked right next to me today and I didn't hear diddly!

is that with or without the antenna try without to see if you hear yer mate also re solder the pl plugs ,it could be that also how is antenna fitted which antenna is it ,being a series you will need a good length of copper wire to create a ground plane for the antenna to work, pics be good ,try a coathanger in the radio to see if your rx is working and tx just dont touch on tx :D rf burns aint nice

Hi Martin,
I have tried with/without and also with dummy load but no go on receiving or tx/ing.

I have checked my PL plugs and they meter out perfectly.

I have purchased a Team TS 6M as a replacement, if I can get my midland rig working again it will be useful for my father in law when he helps out in the winter with my Rover Rescue call outs

M6JOW :)
