OK I have just brought myself a tti TCB 660,Moonraker turbo mag mount and a mini tornado antenna.
Now I rember back in them there olden days, the use of a big box of tricks for tuning and trimming of stuff was needed to get these things to work. Is this kind of equipment just a plug together and go affair these days?.
Any tips on etiquette and use?.
Regards
Terry.

Defo needs checking with an swr meter. Mini antennas quite often need a little tuning and the mount needs a good earth or you risk blowing the transmitter.

Mr stupid as usual, earth the mount?.

In a perfect world the aerial would go right through the centre of a steel flat roof with an insulated mount. That gives the aerial a better basis to carry the RF signal and is known as a 'ground plane'.

If you use a mag mount, the earth is back at the receiver and the ground plane is much less effective.

When we mounted ours, we used a right-angle mounting just above the rear lights on the D2 and made sure that the earth connection to the body was made there and not back at the receiver.

How long is that whip Peter?. What sort of range do you get?.

have still got to install mine, got a bracket on the spare wheel and also told to take the power feed directly from the battery as it can interfere with the signal

hope u dont mind me asking but when i mount my aerial on the bracket are u saying i need to take an earth off the aerial then onto a ground, or would the bracket be earth enough, unless i just use a multimeters to make sure it is going to ground sorry asking a daft question

the pic is just the type of bracket ive got as i think alot of landies have them

erm looking at the pic i think ive answered my own question regarding an earth, doh

The earth is crucial for the aerial, one of THE most important points when installing.

Range varies with who/what you are dealing with.

In the UK we get good line of sight with Philip's D2, but his aerial is a short mag-mount and we should get a better range with an aerial like mine.

Reception was good in France on the French and Polish channels.

Watch out for underground car park ventilation trunking!

i like the idea of the aeiral over the spare wheel whats your swr like

hi

havent got round to connecting it yet but will indeed come back to u when i do

there are quite a few people on here that have these brackets and not sure of how they perform etc

mine is mounted to the light bar on my roof and I have an earth for my spots to the bar.
haven't had the chance to test the range but it's nice and clear when I'm with my mate with his magmount on his roof. we both have D1's with tti 660 radios

i bought the

TTi TCB 900 as it had a very short back on it, as there didnt seem to be much space in the hippos centre console

CB Radios - Vehicle - - : TTi TCB-900 12v/24v

just hope it works ok when i finally install it

the only thing i was thinking , got a 4 foot spring based aerial and was wondering to save it going all over the place if i could cable tie the tip to the roof rack , in how it may affect the signal at all, just thought with going into multistory car parks etc ,

would it make much of a difference do u think please

A vertical whip aerial will give better performance than one tied down.

Mine catches in the ventilation trunking in the under-store Asda car park occasionally.

thats what i thought

would be nice to be able to fit an aerial and keep it tidy as possible

such a shame there isn't a small aerial that could be fitted that provides the same output as a larger one

ive seen fuse boxes taken directly from the battery then onto a cb but would that also cause interference plse

any chance of some pic's just to see how it fits

no probs here u go, not my pic but the same principle

painted mine in hammerite smooth before installing it
