Cb ariel

Just put a cb in my disco 1. Used a gutter mount and as someone told me you need a good earth I drilled a small hole in the gutter mount, nut and bolted it and run an earth direct to vehicle body. On testing with multimeter I do have good earth between gutter mount and body but the actual ariel itself I get no reading! Is this correct?????

Yes this is right, if the mast of the aerial was connected to ground it would be pointless having it.
Also if it was to ground damage would be done to transmitter.
