No such thing as cheap cats unfortunatly. There are OEM ones and cheaper after market ones. Not a lot of people know that fitting a none type approved cat. In other words one that does not conform to the OEM fitment listed on the type approval certificate for your vehicle, is actually contrary to construction and use regulations. Making your vehicle illegal to those regulations. The nanny state is alive and well it would seem. However there are plenty aftermarket ones around a lot cheaper than OEM. I don't think anyone will really notice if you fit them. By the way don't just throw your old ones away some are worth £40.00 scrap value.

been told pre 2001 (y reg) dont have to have type approval, after that its illegal to sell or fit non type approved cats. That what all the cat websites say.. didnt know they could be worth so much in scrap tho..(who do you sell them to, scrap metal dealers?) cheers for that

You could take them off and shake the broken up ceramic out like the previous owner did with mine but it will sound like sh1t and won't pass an mot unless you've got lpg.

I want to replace mine sometime so I'd be interested in what you find. Apprently the ones with metallic cores are better than the ceramic ones (and more robust). I was looking to get some from double s or whatever they're called but they're more expensive than the ebay ones and I keep hearing contradictory things about their quality....

Guy

i was recomended the stainless ones from double s but they £400+

ill get cheap ones, as long as they last another ten years dont mind what they are.

Blimey. They were only £300 last time I spoke to em! I only need them to stop it sounding so horrible but their decat pipes cost more than their cats!

could decat it but it would be my luck that the day it went in for its mot the bloody lpg system would pack up and it would fail. !!!!!!!!!!!!

you could make the down pipes yourself, just need to make an 18mm threaded hole for the sensors..
