After this weekends experiences (2 bleed caps and a hose burst) I have realised its time to sort my box 'o bits out to keep in the disco. Now I know to keep fuses, bulbs, hoses e.t.c but are there any specific items that are worth keeping, like the bleed caps that I now know brake quite often but are there any other bits and bobs that are worth taking along?

Oh yeah, its the 300 im running but I suppose this thread is good for anyone going out off roading...

You have other probs if your bleed screws are poping like cooling system over pressure hg maybe
I dont carry much in the way of spares but a decent toolbag helps but to be fair i havent broken down

as above but also a spanner for the fuel filter bleed valve ;), a couple of heavy duty tow ropes, lots of other spanners etc, a compressor, but also, the most important - cables ties and duct tape - only other thing you really need is a big hammer ;)

spare rubber donut, spare indicator (i always seem to brake the same one) and electrical wire. not a vast amount but its a just incase collection

I use to carry a donut but have gone to 200TDi setup so dont need it anymore... And yeah, I always brake the same indicator, I carry light repair tape though, means I can repair either side if needed.

Im putting it down to old plugs, the first popped but the second came off in my hand whilst tightening, after I fixed it there were no problems, no overheating and no mix of water/oil. I shall be bringing my block tester home to double check but it ran like a dream all the way home. alot of my hoses are soft and the plugs were crumbling in my hand. I also got told by a few of the guys its a common problem.

Fuel filter mine only packs up when I dont have a spare with me!

Fuel filter, thats on me list... didnt think of that but its definitley needed...

Fuel filters , water hoses various , jubilee clips ,water pump , alternator , belts , fluids and oils , fuses and relays , bulbs , crimp connectors and wire , tape various .....for a start

I didnt realise we were including tools and equipment....christ , I got four crates I carry all the time up to and including gas stove , kettle and brewmaking kit !

Yeah im not fussed on tools, I take half me tool kit and my electrical kit with me when I go away, its more about the spares. Im an accomplished mechanic but theres not much you can do without the spares, well except aralditing a bolt into the remains of the bleed cap to get you home... it worked though, thank fook!!
