Carbon Cleaning

is this any good or is it bull. i have a 3.6 v8 td its engine running fine. but ive been told when egr valves are old they can destroy an engine. with no real warning. some how letting water into a piston. so i was told a carbon clean will give the egr,s a bit longer life anyone think this is a good idea to have done. or am i wasting money. any.

Egr valves can be troublesome on diesels getting clogged up with carbon sometimes they stick open ( or closed). When they stick open the turbo won't spool up because of pressure leak. When they stick shut the cel light comes on. The cause is often subtle from short journeys poor diesel slightly clogged injectors. The solution is to blank it. Cleaning is effective but the root cause will still be present.

i here on 2.7 its quite common for this water problem from the EGR causing water to come from the cooling system. to go into a piston slowly a bit more every week till the engine stops then its a new engine. has any one herd this.

I think most Euro 4 and 5 Egrs are water cooled, the Egr gases go through a water cooled jacket, these perforate causing the problem mentioned, ideally when the jacket bursts you really want your Egr to be caked solid and failed in the closed position.
