Evening,

As the posts says I have an idle issue when the girls cold. She fires up perfectly, charge gauge goes positive and she sounds nice, take my foot off the pedal and she revs slower charge warning light pops on then she stops.

Starts up again perfectly and when she is warm she is fine. She had a webber carb conversion a few years ago and to be honest this is the first time I have even looked at a carb.

I have ordered new plugs and leads etc so will fit this lot next week but I just do not think that is it. Any thoughts as at the moment I am having to feather the throttle at junctions and for a guy that is used to new cars this is a whole new world of concentration!

Has it always done this? Is it worse on cold mornings? (we're still getting those!) Do you use the choke to start the engine?

Carb idle mixture may not be set up properly, may have crap in jets, air leak, idle screw not set up properly or it may be your choke cable isnt set up properly.
Clean the carb, fit new fuel filter, set mix, idle and choke up and it should be ok (assuming ignition and valve lash is tidy).
webers have idle jets that gum up easily so if it has no inline filter, i bet its crud in the jets. They arent easy to clean mind, sometimes if they are really bad its not possible to get them to run right. A new one is £100 odd if its knackered.

Have to say I am more and more impressed with this thing every day I work on her, took of the carb to clean and the vacuum hose was shot, air intake hose split and when I was cleaning the car the was a massive lump of crud inside it. How the hell she ran is beyond me,

All clean, new bits and set up (even tuning was easy) and now she purrs like a kitten.

What a superb piece of kit. And to top it all the winter wheels arrived today and look great so all in all a very good day.
