Hello
How complicated is it to change the carb gasket ?(it leaks prttey badly) The one on top. I was told that all I have to do is open 6 bolts, take the old one and put in the new one. Is that correct? Does it need doing anything else before or after?

A note in case anyone had the same problem and checked this thread later:
I tried it and result is that although a novice can replace the gasket there is a very big chance that he will mess up the cruicial setting and eventually ends up back at his mechanic with a bigger expense. So do not try it unless you know how to set and adjust a carb and have several other pieces (such as the rubber ring) for rebuilding a carb handy.

I'd be loath to take the top off a carb without a rebuild kit - you never know what you'll find lurking inside. As for doing it in situ, it's a recipe for lost bits. I usually cut down a large cardboard box to make a semi closed working area. get the outside of the carb as clean as possible and then start dismantling - with a printout of the exploded diagram on hand. Once you've decided to work on a carb you might as well go the whole hog and overhaul it properly. If you've got leakage at the main joint on a Zenith landy carb you probably need to sort out the body warp whilst it's in bits. As for setting up - it's only two screws.......

It may have been that someone had all ready messed up the settings trying to compensate for the leak,if fuel can get out air can get in.
