I now price for part ex depends on how much you are going to spend,have seen td5,s from £1500 up to £9000 in auto trader,local independent dealer offered me £3500 today against a 13 grand freelander 2,I don't expect miracles but it must be worth more than that:Any thoughts would be much appreciated

The dealer will want to make a bit on your car as well as the new one you're getting. I would have thought it would be worth a bit more too, but it's simpler to just trade it in and that's what the dealer is counting on.

Ideally you should just buy the Freelander without a part exchange and perhaps negotiate a bit more discount, then sell the Disco privately, but that's not always possible, neither is selling yours first if it's your only transport. That's what the dealers bank on (in more ways than one).
