Would anyone be interested in seeing a progress and build log for the project i have just finished?

I have a mediocre powered laptop mounted above my sunvisor and an 8" touch screen mounted in the head lining above the winscreen

Definitely. I wanted to do this but don't quite have enough knowledge tore-mount a laptop screen elsewhere ... so just use a small laptop ... ;)

Pc in car to keep kids entertained, watching movies and such. As well as having a massive library of music on hand, free built in sat nav. Internet tethered to my phone. Stuck in traffic, waiting in car while Mrs goes shopping for 3 hours. You get the idea.

Just gonna post up all the pictures i took during the build and explain them over time lol
This is where i plan to install my dismantled laptop motherboard. Quite a tidy little gap. Motherboard from a netbook, so low power, small, integrated memory and processor :)

Loaction for the screen. You get about 6" height of real estate here. Although hardly any space behind it. The head lining is pretty flush to the roof, this causes some problems later on.

Roof lining out, trying to find somewhere to stick my laptop PSU. Not much room anywhere. So dismantled the laptop PSU and it fit PERFECTLY between this bracket and the roof. Very handy!

Here is the screen i will be using. I have removed the screen and all its electronics from its case, and am making a new one. 4mm Ply wood and it works wonders. Needed 3 pieces. Two pieces with smaller apertures in them. Smaller aperture so the screen shows through, but not all the gubbins on the outside of it. The piece with the bigger aperture holds the LCD and the touch panel in line with eachother

With a dremel iv rounded off the edges so it looks slightly better

This is the state of the cutting disks after i'd chopped out the apertures on the bits of ply... smelt nice lol

Brass screws and brass cup washers for that authentic look. Stained the wood with boiled linseed oil

Screen in place. FINALLY!

Screen fired up and looking good. Home made bezel is making a touch condition on the panel, touch screen not working, it thinks im touching it all the time at the very edge :( Time for a scalpel to shave away little bits at a time. Not fun

Front end up and running

Unfortunately this is how im running the front end.... still needs some work!!

Above the roof lining, i couldnt take that many pics, i would need about 4 hands to hold everything and take pics. Sufficed to say, there is alot of gaffa tape holding various wires in place. For live i have ran a relayed live from the battery up the A-post in to the roof lining, using the fuel cut-off solenoid as the switch. I ran an extension wire from the GND on the cabin light for the cicuit. After having all the wires held in place, i chopped a 1.5" square hole in the lining and fed the laptop power, touch screen USB and VGA cables thru

This is the shelf that screws to the roof lining. look at that for a snug fit!!

Hole cut for the screen. Screen fits very slightly in to this. I didnt cut all the way thru. The rear layer of fibreglass i left in place to stop screen passing thru

MORE TO COME WHEN I TAKE PICS
