The toad from toad hall has arrived (AI606 T2). Surprising there's very few alarm installers my neck of the woods and they don't seem interested in fitting it. I want to have a bash anyway.

I reckon I can work out the wiring, so the clumps of silly string aren't phasing me. As all roads lead to Damascus, I need to know where to put (hide) the module/unit, the siren, and the two sensors (top of each pillar at the front or in the back corners).

I'm told they don't have instructions as they serve to inform thieves and vagabonds, and I'm told it's daft to ask for suggestions on a forum or if anyone knows a link to youtube vids etc. as again, I might as well broadcast how to disable my car alarm. Well, the stalemate's no good to me, so I'd rather ask and be told, so if any of you can help, that'd be great. Cheers.

I didn't think of that. I've deleted the link above. It's useful but for a golf, so it doesn't tell me where to hide the module in a defender 90. So is it the 'start a conversation' button for PM'ing then? And are the trusted members the highest ranking avatars like Blue Beasty et al??

The kit I bought for the 90 came with a clear set of instructions. You do have to take the upper dash out to get to the wiring but that's straightforward enough. The control unit and sounder go wherever you can find space really- best not to tell anyone where you put it though.

Since I installed mine myself, my insurers didn't give me the discount you'd get for a 'professional' installation, but with our cars it's more for your own peace of mind than anything else.

Hi Mackers, yes it is start a conversation. Just as aside, when I tried to PM you, it says I am blocked :(
You could always ask for PM's and choose who you speak to.

Good luck, personally I just looked at the tratter and decided the best position for installation. If they get in, it should have sounded. Does yours text you (don't answer that lol) if it does then you will know whats going on.

I haven't got anyone blocked? I've just checked. It's probably time I read about settings and sorted it out. I took all the ticks out of the preferences boxes 'cos I keep getting loads of email notifications, but it made no difference, I still keep getting emails when someone likes or posts.

Bloody hell. My MCAFEE doesn't like some of the sites that advertise the toad ai606 manual!!

Just in case anyone else is looking for the manual in the future. It's in the public domain from google so hopefully I won't get in trouble (the confidentiality statement on page 2 is a bit worrying, but then I'm not a toad employee)

Chickened out. It's more complicated than I thought. I can change a plug though. Found someone who'll do it for 150 quid. The setting up of it is a bit of task too, but mainly, tracing all the wires and not cutting the wrong one is beyond my gift at the mo.

I suppose I need a plan for the installer who's doing it on a day week starting the 21st Jan. I know to tell him to find a space for the module in a really hard to access spot. What about the two cut-outs I can have? Ignition, battery, fuel, engine ... . Is there anything else I can add? I've seen an anti-tilt add-on for the thieves who tow away, and someone has done a microwave sensor pointed at the galvanised chassis, though I dunno why? What about a come close/proximity sensor, so that anyone who touches it gets a siren blast? Anyone any experience of DIY etching windscreen etching kits? Any good?

Fuel shut off solenoid and ignition are usual favourites. I also like the idea of a tilt switch for tow away. Hope it goes well. I understand why you don't do it yourself, given time I expect you will gain the skills necessary :)
