Gearboxes are quite light it's the transfer that's heavy.
I've split them and done the job on my own but it was a while back:rolleyes:
I used a trolley jack to lower and refit the transfer.
Second time I did the job I used an engine crane much easier.
Engine cranes are quite cheap now arnt they?

What we all said originally, the transfer box is easy enough to remove.
Trolley jack to assist, removing both gearboxes is easy enough.

Cranes are cheap enough to buy now,and can be hired.

there is a jig oyu can make that goes on a trolley jack that then bolts in palce of the tranfer box sump cover, then a trolley jack can lower the lot, its made to sort the weird centre of gravity, google it

I made one from a spare mount, cut the rubber off then weld on a bar that fits in trolley jack with the cradle removed. Prob wouldnt work too well with a smaller jack tho, mines a wider 3t one

Having just finished a gearbox removal, refurb and refit just yesterday.
I personally dropped my box out (whole) using two trolley jacks (hi lift would be better) and the front end jacked up for more access (and to enable you to get the box out from under the landy once removed)

To refit it, I tried many times with multiple jacks and pairs of hands but to no avail. A engine crane and one friend later and it went straight in!

Hope this helps

Don't bleeve you. You are just trying to convince us that you aren't the village idiot.

Interesting where that comes from, like eejit, old English it means someone who doesnt vote or support conformity and governmental structure, people who didn't conform , anarchists if you will. Keeping in mind that in Medieval times it was the rich (upper classes) who insisted they were ''in charge'' and used this to their own advantage, the term ''idiot'' or ''eejit'' was used as a way of singling out these people and pushing them into conformity, it was a way of controlling people,to divide and conquer, to be termed an ''eejit'' by your community probably wasn't a good thing back in those days but it had a totally different meaning to today.
