Hi,

I have an automatic Freelander TD4. Today it has developed an issue where I cannot move the gear selector down to 1st gear to activate the HDC. I am getting no error messages such as the F4 blinking on the screen. The car is driving fine, and I cannot fathom what has gone wrong.

Additionally if I put it into sport mode, I can shift up and down, in and out of 1st with no problem. Could it be one of the solenoids? I'm not losing any power, however I have noticed the brakes have gone quite stiff, as though they need to be bled.

Anyone have the foggiest idea what could be causing this issue? It seems very odd. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Regards,

Gov

A further update on this problem: It feels like there is something pulling at the gear-lever when I'm trying to move it down from driver to 1st. 2nd and 4th are fine, sport mode is still working as intended, with 1st gear selectable, but reverse appears to be playing up as well. Would a gearbox failure display in this way?

Sounds like a selector issue. Is something fouling the gear selector cable at the gearbox end? The under tray can get bent and foul the cable adjuster. It's a mechanical linkage issue not the the gearbox it's self.

Not sure, but given how suddenly it came on, that is where I'll start as soon as I can sort out some help to have a proper look.
