I have a new headunit to fit and it plugs in to the 2 connectors in the cars wiring.

When I turn the ignition on and turn the stereo on, it works just fine.

As soon as the car is turned off, it loses its memory, so it must not be getting a constant supply of elecy.

The left connector is the speakers, the centre is the power, etc and I dont know what the yellow one is?

The orange - red/white (car) connector is OK as the stereo dimms when the lights are put on. And it's getting power which must be from the red - white/pink (car), and or yellow - purple (car).

If I pull the red or yellow wire apart, the stereo goes off.

Find permanent live on vehicle loom plug, route it to terminal 16 yellow wire on radio plug. Check fuses.

I have no equipment for checking wires and I'm faily hopless at elecy stuff too!

Someone must know which wire is permenant live?

Or what I've done wrong.

If you hopeless at electrical stuff and you have no means of checking for the live, perhaps you should get someone who does know what they are doing to look at it.

I know rangies arnt normal cars :D!! but the symptoms suggest just a case of having ya ignition live and permanent live mixed up, on the stereo side of aftermarket sereos, there is usually bullets connector to swap them over? i may be wrong tho, as i said rangies aint normal, but if you are really not sure, best get some one who knows what they are doin to take a look, if i am wrong please some one tell me, as i would be intrigued to know the issue?

Generally the car wiring is all the same and the radio wiring varies. Come across this several times before when fitting stereos and the cure USUALLY is to swap the red and yellow feed wires over. Usually the permenant and switched (positive +) live feeds are reversed. I say usually but get someone with a meter to check!! Simples!!:)

If I can fit a DMF and clutch on my own without help, I sure as hell aint gonna start paying to get a stereo fitted, electrical or not!

That's why I asked the question and sure enough I got an answer and it's sorted.

:)
