Hi,

land rover 90, 1988

Im trying to renew my front disc brake discs, which obviously involves taking off the brake caliper, however i cant get the darn thing to unbolt. Ive had a go but ive sheared a socket wrench trying.
After i did this i had a closer inspection of the bolt head and it doesnt look like a normal bolt head, is this normal/ correct? it looks to have many more sides than the usual hexagonal bolt head. If this is right what fitting do i need?
And any advice on getting the bolt out would be appreciated

Cheers,

Yes it's correct, a bi-hex (12 point) bolt. They are thread locked in place so should be tight (ya don't want it commin out and the caliper fallin off). Get a quality socket and a breaker bar to undo them.

cheers, no wonder it wouldnt come off, was using wrong socket, also what size socket is it? and what is a breaker bar?

Cheers,

cheers guys, great help. Got a couple of days off work so doing it over the weekend hopefully.

What size are the bolts to replace? Dont want to be stranded at early o clock in the morning :D

cheers,

a breaker bar is just a mans best friend, couldnt live without mine! sockets on the end... massssive long bar to make breaking the nuts easier! also all caliper bolts are cheese bolts!

1985 90 v8. Front pads, take caliper off?

Pins out, clips out, i just took the outside one out, pushed thingy back in, put new pad in, then did the inner one the same way.
