Hi,
I have a 1999 TD5 GS Manual, it has done 130,000 miles.
Ovet the last few weeks it has been getting progressively harder to get it into gear, until today (4/5/09) when we couldnt get it into any at all.
Over the past few weeks we had a couple of problems getting it into a gear, always 1st or reverse, but once it was in and driving the rest of the gears changed without fault.
There is no crunching from the gear box and the clutch does not slip at all, it was only replaced about 10,000 miles ago.
One thing to note though, is that when we brought the car the seller gave us a part that keeps the gearstick in the central position when in neutral. Apparently the previous one had snapped and this is the replacement but we never had it fitted because we never found it to be a problem?
Any ideas???????

Hi mate.

The piece of metal that breaks off the bias plate typically, could well be stuck and interefering with the gear lever.

Replacing the bias plate is defo DIY although it's a bit fiddly.

Probs selecting first and reverse could be a hydraulic issue. I had diffs selecting first which was fixed by bleeding teh cutch master cylinder.

Sort the bias plate first maybe and see what happens.

Cheers

Andy
