mines has smashed 3rd so iw ill be doin mine next week i hope and it looks like all the parts are avalible from john craddicks

yeah ive taken the top off the gear box and it seems to be a black disc/bearing not moving back from the cog fully.

can you take lots of pic then i will have a go!

if you want a hand i no what most of the tools are called.

find an exploded diagram of the gearbox from a parts book this will tell you what and in what order everything is surposed to be lol

im afraid taking pics isnt gonna be much of an option sorry
i work hard and fast so no time for pics
thanks for the offer of a hand drop me a pm and we can see what we can do

Sound like you have a broken or bent synchro clutch spring, very common problem on SII and III gearboxes. They break and a bit will come out and wedge under the 3rd/4th synchro assembly so that you cant move it and engage either of those gears.

Take the turret and selector cover off and you can then see the 3rd/4th synchro unit. Turn it round and check whether all three springs are there and if any have dislodged.

You can replace these without stripping the box - its fiddly but possible, and they are only about £1 each. Do a search on here for more detailed info on how to do it.

I have done this on a similar box, I fealt like I deserved a medal after, its very fiddly if you've podgy fingers.
A pair of extra long handle long nose pliers is a rally good idea for this job.
