cant bleed injector pump

I need some help with this one please, my 1983 110 2.5 na diesel landy which i have had for 10 years and is only used off road for towing trailers around my property just died on me on sunday, the fuel was low in the tank but there was enough of it but just to be sure i put a few gallons in the tank still no joy.
I have removed and replaced the fuel filter,bled the air from the banjo fitting on the filter housing and when i opened the 2 bleed screws on the pump i cannot get any fuel to flow from either bleed hole, the lift pump is working fine and when you pump it by hand fuel pours out but when you connect the pipe to the injector pump no matter how much you pump you cannot get any fuel to flow from the bleed holes.

I have even tried connecting the inlet pipe to the pump by placing the end of the pipe in a container of fuel which i placed on the roof of the landy and siphoned the fuel through and quickly connected the pipe to the injector pump hoping that this would bleed it but still the same result!!! no darn fuel coming from the bleed holes.

I am now at a loss as what to do next so if anyone on here can offer me where to go next with this i will stand them a PINT of what ever they want!!!!.

Are you sure the lift pump isn't lifted on the cam?

Hi no the lift pump is not on the cam and i introduced myself and posted my location when i joined this site in 2010, but seeing as that was 4 years ago you are right i should have posted my location and introduced myself again, so here are my details.

I have a 1983 110 defender 2.2 na diesel and my location is Boston Lincs

Not sure what happened to the intro post, then, as you have only two posts, and both in this fred. And your location is not visible, so no-one locally can offer to come and help.

It is always difficult to say without seeing the problem, could be a few things. For starters try removing the low-pressure pipe from the pump, and see if they are clear. Sometimes there is a little brass strainer in the fitting where the lp line screws into the pump, they can block up, worth a check.

If the lift pump is working, and you have the right screws out of the pump to bleed it, it can only be a blockage or airlock causing the problem.

make sure the stop lever is operating and if it is then the little ball bearing may be stuck inside the injector pump stopping the fuel from coming through.. google cav dpa pump and have a look at the exploded diagrams for a better idea..

you have got the ignition on whilst you try to bleed it

not needed with a 2.25 just need the pull stop in and make sure the lever on the pump is down too.. if you still cant bleed it through then the injector pump has a problem.
