Cannot change to diff, or low?!

I have a 1992, Discovery 200tdi.

I have been having some strange noises when changing from Hi to Low, and into either Diff Lock, then all of a sudden.

Now I can take it out of Hi but cannot put it into any of the other three and struggle to get it back into Hi. there is no feeling of anything stopping me it's just as though they are not there?!

What has happened...

Sounds like your transfer box is finbarred!!!!

check linkage between lever and box,feel if lever on transfer box is loose or has resistance which it should have .there is a grub screw holding a lever inside the top housing (6xbolts)which can come loose

Thanks for your help, had a feeling it would be the transfer box, will check the gear linkage tomorrow but I don't think thats the case or I wouldn't be able to put it back into Hi ratio but none of the other three but will try none the less!!

Wait....just make sure the linkage is well oiled..mine was a bugger to work as the previous owner never used it in 18 years..bit of oil on it and erm, persuasion, works perfect now.

I use my Diff Lock and Low, a lot so I doubt it is through not being used and seized up being honest it is more like over use and abuse!

I was using it last week to drag tree's about with!

Many Thanks will check the linkage and oil levels though just to be safe.

Go out for a nice long drive then when everything is nice and hot under there, try it again. If you are lucky its freed up. Now keep working it
If unlucky, then it's time to get to start wrenching.

Sadly, most people simply hang their house keys from the hi-low difflock lever......
