its an easy job, take the wheel and brake drum off, remove the drive flange undo the outer bearing nut, (52mm box spanner) remove the lock washer, remover the inner nut, pull the hub off the stub axle, pop the old seal out while your there inspect the bearing for dirt, play and noise/roughness if it looks and feels ok grease it up,slap it back together in reverse order to removal, when tightening the bearings i normaly do the up tight with a short bar in the box spanner then back them off a bit

evening folks, how doo?

mind if i do some thread-jacking!!

i've been doin this same job on me series 3 but hit an annoying snag, got the hub off and ordered new seals, part number RTC3511 if i remember rightly (looked up numbers in my part book ceedee). the current leaky seals have "replaces part number RTC3510" on the side of the seal which corisponds to the info in the parts book. however the new seals i recieved (in bags with RTC3511 on them) are quite different and dont fit in an obvious way!!

maybe i'm just bein thick, anyone got any experience with these seals?

i'll post some pics of the different seal tomo (left me memory stick wi photee's on it in me cabin). cheers!! :D

right part no rtc5310 is to 1980/81 rct5311 is from 1980/81

yer i seen that, the series 3 im working on is a 1981 model but my 1974 series 3 which was donating parts for the later one has the "replaces rtc3510" seals as well so i'm thinking the newer design seal will just fit where the old seal came out rather than the hub assembly being different.

saying that i dont think much of me 1974 series is from 1974!!!

a bit like my one then lol

think its compulsory for all series to be made of a random assortment of bits from various years!! the 81 model had a 3 main bearing engine as well, thought it should have been a 5 bearing one by that time! it must have died at some point as well!!

cheers for the help though!!

here's some pic's of the two seals i have:
