Hi all, can anyone say if you can tow a small sankey ex wd trailer with a freelander as i am not sure if i can have tow hitch high enough on my freelander 1 for one of those.:)

You need a speical tow hitch

Not sure how you would mount that to a freelander...

cant answer about height as standard but you can get tow hitch adjustable height brackets that will fix this. the other thing to not is that MoD sankes come with a nato hitch this is like a donut ring instead of the conventional tow unit so youl need to either fit a nato tow claw to yer free lander or put a EU tow bit on the trailer.

Hi,thanks lads thanks for the info main thought is will it be nose down too much if anyone knows let me know.

I'll have a look at work tomorrow to see what height the hitch would need to be. I'll park up next to a defender and take pics. Personally I think it's totally impractical because the hitch would be to high to open the rear door.

Going from the dims on here:

3/4 tonne Sankey Trailer - MOD Sales, Military Vehicles & Used Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale

Of overall height of 1250mm and body dept of 450mm, the draw bar will be at roughly 800mm by my fag packet calculations :scratching_chin:

I've just measured the top of my tow ball at 430mm (with a reasonable weight of tools in the back), 800mm on mine is about the top of the Union Jack on my avatar. :D

Sankeys are designed to be towed by a nato hitch so unless you have one of them you int gonna be able to tow it anyway. secondly the nato hitch is designed to be attached to a defender's crossmember. So unless your planning a major lift and redesign of the rear end then you won't be able to tow it.

Thanks for all the replies did not realise these were as big as they are will have to think again .
