I have a Range Rover 4.6 v8 2001 vogue .:D love the the thing to bits . but it has develuped a misfire on No2 cylinder and a knocking in the inlet manefold and the oil light comes on when ticking over but goes of at 15oo rpm .I have removed the ht lead on No 2 plug the banging stops but misfire still the same and oil light still on  HELP.

may have blown blown into valley gasket and cooking the oil-has the gasket got a bulge when hot?, for the 3.5 the oil relief valve sticks hot and gets scored. (there is a tadpole relief valve to cure it)
At worse it has slipped a liner.

other causes of oil light on are worn camshafts or main bearings, but you have symptoms of head gasket/slipped liner

My RR 4.6 v8 2001/2 It has a missfire and and the oil light still comes on at low revs I have been told it mite have a sticking valve. HOW can I fix this do the heads have to come off or just the inlet manefold????

A sticking valve is not going to cause the oil light to come on (I'm assuming they mean a sticking inlet or exhaust valve???. Lack of oil pressure does that due to
1. no / not enough oil
2. oil knackered due to getting too hot (becomes too thin)
3. Relief valve stuck open as mentioned by Fanatic
4. Knackered bearings somewhere as also mentioned by Fanatic
Taking the Nr 2 plug lead off stops the 'banging' in the inlet manifold - Could be the inlet valve stickling slightly or, as Fanatic says, the valley gasket blown. Either way, it looks like you have some dismantling to do. If you haven't already got one, get a copy of 'Rave' by downloading from the Green Oval site, or buy one of many CDs available on fleabay. These are not advertised as 'Rave' but they are - search for range rover workshop manual. Only 2 or 3 quid each.
