Last week we took our 300tdi disco to buildwas. Was goin all well until we dropped it into some deep water just over the bonnet. So tried backing it out but was stuck. The engine started to sound rough and was loosing power, we got winched out in the end. After that had no power, it was blowing black smoke but that was coming out of the side of the turbo nothin was coming out of the exhaust. Checked the engine oil and it was way over the max level, so drained off but still had no power and loads of black smoke. Today stripped down, the timing was out, retimed back up but still would not rev up but also the oil level shot up again. Not sure if this is diesel going into the engine. I think the next step is compression tests. Has anybody got any ideas many thanks

Snorkel ? If not - you've managed to fill yer block with water.
Did you plug the breathers ? Wading with an open timing cover is not good - water getting in there will cause the timing belt to possibly slip.
Your fuel pump is ****ed and letting fuel into the oilways - that's why the engine is "filling up".
I'd check your turbo and make sure it still has all it's vanes - if not - engine rebuild time.

I checked the turbo earlier it turns by hand and all the fins seem to be there. So do you reckon it's the fuel pump which has gone. It starts up sounds like it's runnin low on compression and misfires when reved

It was blowing black smoke but now when I retimed it back up it is blowing white/blue smoke which i think is due to the oil and diesel mix . Yeah got diesel in the oil. I will replace the lift pump and change the oils and see what happens. Thanks for the help. Lets hope it's just that

take the rocker cover off and turn the engine by hand, and watch all the valve to make sure they are moving as an when they should. If not you've got bent valve/s or pushrod/s

I finally got round to workin on the disco. I fitted a set of push rods and new cam belt kit. Started the car and guess what it still miss firing and blowing blue, white smoke. Checked compressions and they were reading around 21 to 22 bar. I have still got the turbo pipes off and intercooler but this would not cause it to misfire would it. Any body who can help me out thanks
