Help and advice please!!

The wife unfortunately has a 2000 FL and given the state of the motor market it's now worth nothing so I need to find a solution to this problem.

Two issues really which could be one problem, first is a really bad vibration/shudder at appox 50mph. Done all the usual, wheel balance, swap tyres etc but no better. Doesn't go away when lifting off or free wheeling. The second problem being that it losses power and jerks when under load e.g pulling a trailer. I had thought this was an ignition/fuel problem but been though all that.

Having read previous posts it has kind of been suggested the IRD could be "binding up" has anyone ever came across this and have solved with an IRD rebuild? If so I notice my RAVE disc doesn't have a IRD overhaul section where can I find details?

Any help greatly appreciated.

You could try dropping off the propshaft and running the vehicle to see if the problem goes away. There are blanking plates available if you choose to remove the the IRD output shaft.

Thanks Allan, if I remove the prop and the problem goes I suppose the vibration/sudder could be in the prop. I can borrow a prop of a V6 to try. Does anyone know if V6 and K series prop's are the same?

So am I right in thinking that if a remove the prop and problem goes only to reoccur when different prop used it is most likely the IRD?

I dread the thought of forking out for an IRD not to solve the problem.
