I always wanted a Defender but I dont fit. Does anyone know if it is possible to alter the seating position, I had a look but a bulkhead appears to be in the way. I need the seat to come in and back, also can you get electric windows in them?

You can remove the buklhead behind the seats and make alterations to allow thye seat to be mounted further back- the bulkhead is replaced by a steel strengthening tube which runs across the floor. However this will push you behind the door pillar which will severely restrict your side view, certainly to the point of being inconvenientand possibly to the point of being dangerous and illegal.

I dunno, where do you need more room, for your legs.

I reckon you could move the seat back further. Unbolt it, and move it back a bit, depends also on which one you buy, in mine for example you would need to cut the back of the tub out and put in one of those tub crossmember things, then you would have space to move the seat into.

Its not impossible, of some of the things people ask of LR's its not that big a deal.

diff lockers are a fair bit, but no more than it would be for a 90/110.

Yes it can be done at, right tools and some time.

check out the ashcroft transmission site. all the info is there for you. they do a fitting service too.
the detroit lockers are approx 400 quid and the ARB ones are approx 475.
(supply only prices)

I'm 6'4" and 17st so I had a similar problem with my Defender. I gained a couple of inches more legroom by raising the seat up and back on 2 pieces of 1" box section - makes quite a difference, specially if you fit a smaller steering wheel as well. Only problem is that the side of the seat then touches on the inertia reel of the seat belt, so I made up a new mounting bracket for it a bit higher than standard. No need to remove the bulkhead but you lose a bit of storage space behind the seat.

Well I'm 4ft 11" and 44 kilos (while were announcing height and weight!!), I have the seat pretty much all the way forward and I still find the view restricting in the Defender, I don't have any windows along the sides at the back and I do have to position myself on the road to get the best view possible. I can imagine if you are moving seats back, it would cause quite a bit of a problem in that respect would it not??

Not all is lost mate. What about a defender 110 CSW I am sure they are open back so ya can do what ya want with the seat. Somone correct me if I am wrong. I know a 6'3" bloke who has one and drives it no probs at all......

Need the space for tools so 90 is out anyhow. Do you do much offroad, heard the def. are best but rather uncomfortable for road work.
