Hi there,

GeorgeDubya here, I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I'm a professional mechanic (with a problem!) and my main reason for joining this here forum is to try to get some info to solve my problem and let me sleep again!

Having said that, I do have to admit that, due to having virtually rebuilt a Series II/IIA over the past few months/years, I have started to develop a grudging like for these old dinosaurs......................

Ha- Ha! There is somebody out there then, eh!

Okay, okay - I'll admit it, I'm not a big fan of 'Landy's' - been in the trade too long to like anything too much! But I really am in need of a bit of 'insider' info if you guys feel able to help?

Fact is, I rebuilt this Series II/IIA engine - and I have to say it runs like a dream(!), but the only problem is, run it at 'normal cruising revs' for a few minutes, and it pukes oil out of the filler-tube cap!

I've checked and cleaned the breather and the rocker cap; replaced the oil filter and done other stuff too (oil level's okay!).......The only thing I DIDN'T do when I rebuilt the bugger, was replace the oil pump (though I did check clearances etc and re-lap the PRV ball).

I think I know the answer, but I really DON'T want to remove the sump and replace the oil pump.......any ideas what else could be causing this problem folks?

The engine has been fully rebuilt. Shells, rebore, pistons, rings, etc., etc. The ONLY thing that wasn't changed (though I inspected and rebuilt it) was the poxy oil pump! I'm becoming convinced that its this component that has failed and that its producing too much oil pressure! I'm going to put a gauge on it later today.

Other than the oil problem, the engine is running well, very quiet and smooth!

Oh well, we all have our crosses to bear.

Anyway, hold your thumb over the dipstick tube for a few seconds, with the engine running. When you remove your thumb, is there pressure? Does oil spurt out of the tube? If it does, suspect piston rings (maybe one was damaged on fitting). If not, then it could be oil pressure - the gauge should tell you that.
 
Latest update: I have NO cranckcase compression but, when I hold the revs on, I can see oil start to come UP the engine filler tube! Its frothy man! But the oil is new AND 20w50 grade.

I have checked the oil pressure (PRV dumps at about 60psi) but still the oil advances up the filler tube!

The three return holes back to the sump are clear and I've tried it with the baffle in several positions - still the oil advances up the filler kneck!

My next idea, is to remove the baffle completely and see if that makes any difference.

Anyone know whether there's anyway that I could be getting excessive oil flow (volume)? For instance, if the external feed-pipe up to the head blocks, would this increase oil flow to the cam area and could it cause such a problem?

Will keep you posted as to what happens, but thinking caps in the 'on' position would be greatly appreciated. :)
